Race 4 Fast Speed Day

A high pressure system is extending a ridge up into task area. The forecast is for the Gawler area to remain blue, with cumulus forming to the northeast to over 11,000ft - 3,300m.

Today a 416km task has been set going north first, then turning to the east into the expected cumulus. Yesterday the 412km task was completed at nearly 150kph. We can expect a similar speed today.

Erik Borgmann is 3 points ahead of Norm Bloch and the winner today will get 8 points and the second place 5 points. So Erik needs to do all he can to come home in 1st place to secure his position and Norm must come 1st today to win the grand prix.

It should be an exciting race.

After the top turn point Pete Temple went east of the direct line to the finish looking for the best air. His gambit paid off and put him well in front of th...

SGP Gawler

SGP Gawler is underway with the official Practice Day taking place on Saturday 4 January. A trough moved across the area with high cloud and a southerly breeze pushing the good soaring conditions north of the airfield. The first glider to launch, WP flown by John Grant from Western Australia, climbed to over 11,000ft - 3,000m but the other gliders did not get away. The weather tomorrow, the first race day, looks challenging with the good soaring conditions forecast to be north of Gawler Airfield...
